No — but almost. TÜV-Hessen is just one of the approved testing service providers in Germany — together with GTÜ, DEKRA, KÜS and others. Both we and TÜV Hessen, of course, are allowed to carry out the HU (“main inspection”).
HoldeinePlakette works as a certified expert company mbH and is a partner of KÜS, but is legally independent of TÜV Rheinland or other testing organizations.

Nevertheless: The inspection quality complies with the same legal regulations — § 29 StVZO for HU and § 23 StVZO for classic cars — and the sticker is valid as at TÜV Hessen.

HU's due dates are regulated by law:

• First registration: Around 36 months after initial registration, at the first appointment after initial registration.
• Thereafter: Due every 24 months
• Vintage cars (§ 23 StVZO): With H license plates, usually every 24 months, depending on the individual case
• You can find the exact date on the current sticker, on the vehicle registration document (registration certificate part I) or with the help of your online vehicle certificate.

Important: Take the opportunity to repair visible defects such as defective headlights or worn tires yourself in advance — this helps to avoid possible subsequent inspections.

So that all road users can participate in road traffic as safely as possible. The general inspection ensures that your car is working as it should. This protects you and other road users.

The first HU is usually due 3 years after initial registration, then every 2 years. You can find the exact date on your sticker or in the registration certificate.

You need the registration certificate Part I (vehicle registration document), but any attachment certificates and general operating permits are also relevant. You can also shorten the on-site inspection by inspecting your car yourself in advance and having visible defects such as non-working lights or existing problems with the engine repaired before the test.

The costs vary depending on the type of vehicle. For a car, the total price including HU, AU and sticker is 164€ (no hidden fees). The price is 92€ for motorcycles and 44€ for trailers.
